I know 90s games by heart, and I am completely perplexed how Half-Life's presentation was considered good in light of its competition. If something is stupid, it doesn't matter how it is presented (besides, the friendly aliens in Unreal behaved pretty much the same like the HL scientists) The audio-logs in System Shock are far more interesting and better acted than this stuff. I know that part of the hype is because the NPCs told the story instead of cutscenes, but that's not a valid argument, because 99% of the NPCs in Half-Life say "Hello Freeman, let me open this door for you" or some variation of it. And even if limit it to shooters, System Shock had far better gameplay and story. HL's often lauded story is nothing to write home about compared to other contemporaries (Command and Conquer, Wing Commander, all the adventures and RPGs of that time). I think their landmark series, the thing that made Steam possible, Half-Life, is the most overrated thing in gaming of all time. What do you think? Might we get a Left 4 Dead 3 announcement at some point? Article taken from anyone else think that Valve are one of the luckiest bastards ever? We had the fantastic (and one of my all-time favourite experiences) with Half-Life: Alyx, Counter-Strike 2 coming this Summer and then who knows what? Valve hit a home-run with the Steam Deck as well, and clearly what has been announced for Counter-Strike 2 has a lot of people excited so it would be good to see them keep up this momentum. Clearly Valve are slowly getting back into actual games. Left 4 Dead 2 is easily one of my absolute favourites from Valve, so I'm cautiously excited over this.

Realistically, no one outside of Valve will even know what these strings are actually doing. This has led some other news sites to run headlines like "Left 4 Dead 3 is a non-priority", because it makes for a great bit of clickbait, even though it also says the severity is "high". Mentioned in a Reddit post, it shows up with some curious strings:

So apparently Valve can count to 3 - not the 3 the majority of their fans will want I imagine but still, why is it there at all in a huge upgrade for CS:GO? The internet is currently buzzing about mentions of Left 4 Dead 3 appearing in files for the upcoming Counter-Strike 2.
